Calopteryx exul (Selys, 1853)
Glittering Demoiselle
Type locality: Algeria, no locality data available.
Diagnosis
In both sexes the wings are narrower than in all other Calopteryx species and remain completely clear. The male’s venation is metallic, producing a light blue flash on each wing beat in flight. Legs, especially femora, tend to be paler than in other species in both sexes; chocolate-brown rather than black, or black with yellow internal sides. [Adapted from Dijkstra & Lewington 2006]
